Carbon footprint: how I measure it, and the result
When I display a low-carbon website badge, I want to back it up. Here is my approach, the estimate for kanexio.com, and how to check it yourself in two minutes. No empty promises, just documented results.
From transferred size to a dated estimate
- Load the page
- Apply the model
- Publish the context
The Website Carbon result
0.01 g CO₂ per visit
Rated A+ and cleaner than 97% of pages tested according to Website Carbon. Test dated 13 June 2026.
Rounded value displayed in the public report, accessed on 29 September 2026. This is an estimate for the homepage.
How I measure
From transferred size to a dated estimate
-
Load the page
Record the bytes actually transferred in the browser.
-
Apply the model
Estimate emissions from transferred data and energy assumptions.
-
Publish the context
State the page, date, estimated result and its limitations.
I report the public Website Carbon result for the kanexio.com homepage here. Its calculation estimates emissions from transferred data and assumptions about the energy needed to load a page.
The A+ rating and 97% ranking come from the report linked below. This ranking compares the page with other pages assessed by the tool; it does not mean a 97% reduction in its emissions.
Here I measure the homepage as the reference public entry point. This measurement does not automatically represent every page or the actual traffic distribution; each journey must be measured separately to establish an overall footprint.
Hosting and energy
kanexio.com is served through the Cloudflare network, identified as a green hosting provider by The Green Web Foundation. The Green Web Check result for kanexio.com is dated 23 September 2026 at 06:28 UTC.
This check matches the site’s IP address to a verified hosting provider in the foundation’s directory. It documents the hosting, without establishing that each visit is emissions-free.
Check for yourself
I am not asking you to take my word for it. Two independent tools let you check everything again.

The limitations of this measurement
Let’s be clear about what these figures are and are not. This is a model-based estimate, not an electricity bill accurate to the gram. A page’s size varies with traffic, caching and the visitor’s device.
I publish the homepage result rather than an average across the whole website. The report is dated 13 June 2026. Accessing it today is not a new measurement or evidence of a decrease since another test.
Why I care about it
A lightweight website uses fewer resources and is also faster. Eco-design and performance go together: less data to load means less energy spent, but also a website that displays quickly, ranks better and is easy to navigate.
That is exactly what I aim to build. The low-carbon badge is not a marketing claim attached afterwards; it is a direct consequence of how I work.
